If you’re interested in volunteering with wildlife here are some of the reasons why you should consider the Lilongwe Wildlife Centre:
MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE
The project simply cannot function without volunteers. You will be part of a close knit team and we make every effort to match your skills and passions to the available projects to make sure you have the most fulfilling experience. You will be able to see for yourselves not just the impact the project having on the lives of individual animals but also the bigger picture of conservation in Malawi itself.
PLENTY OF VARIED WORK
Within the animal care department there are a whole host of roles, from the basic animal care duties to helping with vet work, enrichment, integrations and releases. For those interested in education and community work you are most welcome to join the team on outreach or help with visiting school groups. You can also choose to spend part of your time volunteering at Kuti Wildlife Reserve (subject to availability), which is one of our release sites to get a taste of bush living and wildlife work within a bigger reserve and also has an active community outreach programme.
LEARN NEW SKILLS
As a volunteer you will have the chance to get involved in the nitty gritty of the projects. Primate integrations and releases are taken extremely seriously and the results have received scientific critical acclaim. The team’s wildlife vet, Amanda, has worked all over Africa and loves nothing more than to pass on her wealth of knowledge to the volunteers. Nellie the Education Manager won a scholarship from Graca Michel (Nelson Mandela’s first wife) and WWF based on her work and was the first Malawian to go to Antarctica, while Animal Care Manager, Jasper, has over a decade of experience working at the top European sanctuaries.
THE CHANCE TO EXPLORE THE WARM HEART OF AFRICA
Malawi is an amazing country – friendly people, stunning landscapes and also known as the safest country to travel in Africa. We would thoroughly recommend a trip to the famous Lake of Stars for horse riding, snorkelling, diving or just a spot of sunbathing. We get special volunteer rates on 4 day safaris to South Luangwa in Zambia and we’re more than happy to help you organise this.
DON’T JUST TAKE IT FROM US
We get great reviews and many volunteers extend or come back again. You can read some of their reviews here and you are more than welcome to speak to volunteers directly if you would like.
