Do you want to work with wildlife, learn something new and make a difference?
Read more below and email us for a more detailed volunteer information pack.

Who Can Apply

Anyone over 18 years old with a passion for wildlife and a strong work ethic! We will tailor your placement to your skills/experience and provide full on-the-job training.

The Work

Most volunteers choose to focus on wildlife rescue/rehabilitation (which has the greatest demand for volunteers) including animal husbandry, orphan care, vet procedures and health checks, integrations and re-introductions. You can also spend part or all of your time on other LWT projects, such as education, community outreach, marketing and campaigns. And, new for 2018, you can split your time between the Wildlife Centre in Lilongwe and our Elephant Research Project in Vwaza Wildlife Reserve.

Project Sites & Accommodation

The Wildlife Centre is a perfect balance between town and wilderness – located right in the heart of a 200 hectare wildlife reserve and yet still close to the ‘luxuries’ of shops and the odd restaurant. Choose from dorm-style accommodation or private chalets, there’s hot water and electricity (most of the time!) and a fabulous cook who can work to dietary requirements. The camp at Vwaza is a little more basic and isolated given that it is in the bush, but still with hot water and solar electricity.  Read more about our project sites here.

Travel & Free Time

Malawi is known as the Warm Heart of Africa for its friendly people and lush landscapes, and it’s generally viewed as the ‘safest’ country to travel in Africa. We highly recommend that you spend weekends off at the ‘lake of stars’, or perhaps a safari in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park. We can help you with your booking and show you the best deals.

Volunteer Reviews & Films

These volunteer reviews a useful insight into life as a volunteer with us, as are these short videos which include a lovely appeal from our ambassador and soul singing legend, Joss Stone. Take a look through our picture gallery below, too.
