Bee keeping

beeOne third of all our food – fruits and vegetables – would not exist without bees.  If bees went extinct today humans would die in 5 years because we would run out of  food.  It is estimated that the population of bees around the world has declined by 45% in the last ten years and this poses a major threat to biodiversity and global agriculture.

Our bee-keeping project in Salima in partnership with Kuti Wildlife Reserve promotes biodiversity and habitat protection as well as sustainable livelihoods.   Local community members have received training and equipment and are responsible for harvesting and selling the honey with a percentage going back to Kuti.
