PRIMATE CONSERVATION TRAINING COURSE

COURSE SUMMARY
A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join world-leading primate conservation expert, Ian Redmond, OBE, out in the field in Malawi and learn key skills in primate conservation and research.
Study three primate species across three key research sites in ten days:
- Lilongwe Wildlife Centre (vervets, baboons, blue monkeys).
PASA/GFAS accredited sanctuary. - Malawi Wildlife Research Institute, Vwaza MWR (baboons, vervets)
- Nyika NP (blue monkeys)
Theoretical training will include threats to primate populations, strategies in conservation, dealing with primate data, basic statistical analysis of primate data, distance sampling analysis. Practical training will include primate rehabilitation, primate census techniques (baboons and blue monkeys), distance sampling, behavioural research methods, bio sample collection, fecal parasite analysis.
ITINERARY

Arrive at Lilongwe Wildlife Centre. Welcome, tour, meet the team.

Lectures and practicals, incl. physical exams/health checks.

Travel back to Lilongwe. Wrap up dinner.
