Research placement (Kuti Wildlife Reserve)

Head to the field to work alongside Lilongwe Wildlife Trust’s research and field veterinarian at the beautiful Kuti Wildlife Reserve as part of the exciting Clinical Projects in One Health project (CPOH).

CPOH is defined as the integrative effort of multiple disciplines working together to attain optimal health for people, animals, and the environment. CPOH leads disease surveillance, clinical interventions, and several targeted research projects in and around Kuti Wildlife Reserve which is home to many iconic, fascinating species.

Through research and community engagement, we are trying to achieve a better understanding of health and disease in areas where humans and wildlife meet.

This is a unique opportunity for vet students and conservation enthusiasts to gain experience in the field and get involved with activities like herd monitoring, foot transects, data collection, parasitology, and data collection and analysis.

Vet externship

(Open only to students enrolled in veterinary, vet nurse, or vet tech higher education courses)

Working alongside our veterinarian team, you’ll have an opportunity to learn about how a wildlife sanctuary operates and the variety of urgent and non-urgent vet cases that come through our clinic.

You’ll be assisting with incoming exams, health checks, routine diagnostics, rounds, care plans, and emergency operations.

On the days where we don’t have procedures, you’ll participate in our animal care, orphan care, integrations, observations, and enrichment activities.

This placement is based at the Lilongwe Wildlife Centre.

Sanctuary volunteer

Support our award-winning wildlife rescue and rehabilitation teams caring for nearly 200 rescued monkeys, baboons, servals, owls, duikers, and more.

Get involved with behavioural observations, enrichment activities, troop integrations, preparing food, and maintaining enclosures.

From November our wildlife centre also starts to sees an influx of orphaned primates that require round-the-clock care. This is the ideal time to volunteer to help provide the intensive care that baby primates need.

You can also choose to spend time with our education and outreach team learning about how they educate current and future generations about the importance of wildlife protection and conservation in Malawi.
