Lilongwe Wildlife Centre Mandate

Lilongwe Wildlife Centre is mandated by the Malawian Govt with the aim of providing critical care for wildlife in a surrounding international Centre of Excellence, on grounds of education, research, implimentation, and community engagement.

Due in part to the Government of Malawi’s policy of trying to support, promote and diversify private sectors involvement in the economy, Land and Lake Safaris have entered into an agreement with The Department of National Parks and Wildlife to develop and run a Tourist Lodge in a nature sanctuary in the heart of Malawi’s Capital City, Lilongwe.

The development of a centre to rehabilitate wildlife, a wilderness zone in which to release some of these rehabilitated animals into, an education centre of excellence and an area for community based natural resource income generating activities [CBO], alongside the lodge has been eagely welcomed.

The new Centre shall be developed under the concession as a non-profit making Trust and overseen by a board of local and International representatives whose job it will be to ensure that that the new Centre shall continue on the lines on which it has been established.

Without intervention the sanctuary as a resource will be lost due to public pressure and demand from other sectors of the economy and endangered animals will perish due to the absence of care and protection.
