Conservation Genetics

Wildlife movements and migrations are increasingly being cut off by human encroachment into wild lands and wildlife corridors, so a greater understanding of the individual, group and population genetics is required for more targeted wildlife management to maintain diversity.

We are in the process of collecting representative samples of DNA in wildlife populations for a number of species across the country.

This project will also support our anti-trafficking work because DNA samples we collect will assist in tracing wildlife products like ivory back to Malawi so that we can better understand trafficking routes.
